Privacy policy

Build Your Bid is operated by Trade To Business in Ottawa, Ontario. This policy explains what personal information we collect, why, and what you can do about it, under Canada's Personal Information Protection and Electronic Documents Act (PIPEDA). What stays in your browser

The calculators run in your browser. What you type into them — wages, overhead, bids, jobs — is kept in your browser's own storage and is not sent to us unless you save it to an account.

What we collect

• If you create an account: your email address, your business name, and what you save to it — your rate card, bids and job history. Passwords are handled by our authentication provider and we never see them.
• If you request an invite or join the founding list: your name, email, business, trade, city or province, crew size, what you told us you want to fix, your hourly rate if you gave it, the plan you're interested in, your consent choices and when you made them, and the campaign tags on the link you arrived by.
• For security: your browser's user-agent string and a one-way, salted hash of your IP address, used to limit repeated requests. The IP address itself is not stored.
• Cookies: a signed invite cookie that keeps you past the beta gate for up to 90 days, and sign-in cookies if you have an account. There are no analytics, advertising or tracking cookies, and no third-party scripts on the site.

Why

To run the service; to reply to your invite request and send your invite; to send the emails the service needs to (sign-in, invites, replies to requests); and to keep the site from being abused. We send product news only if you ticked the box for it, and every one of those emails has an unsubscribe link.

Where it is stored, and who processes it

Accounts and requests are stored in Canada, in a Supabase database in Montréal. The site is served by Vercel and email is sent by Resend; both are US companies, so information passes through the United States when a page is served or an email goes out, and may be accessible to authorities there under US law. We use these providers only to run the service. We do not sell or rent personal information, and we do not share it with anyone else unless the law requires us to.

How long we keep it

Account data is kept until you delete your account. Invite and founding-list requests are kept while the beta runs and the founding offer is open, unless you ask us to delete them sooner.

Your choices

You can ask to see the personal information we hold about you, to correct it, or to have it deleted, and you can withdraw consent to product news at any time. Email hello@buildyourbid.ca; we answer within 30 days. If you're not satisfied with our answer you can contact the Office of the Privacy Commissioner of Canada.

The beta

Build Your Bid is in beta and features change. If a change affects how we handle personal information, we'll update this page, change the date above, and tell account holders by email.
